2025 LAY LEADERS, SPIRITUAL/PASTORAL SEMINAR

2025 LAY LEADERS, SPIRITUAL/PASTORAL SEMINAR

2025 LAY LEADERS, SPIRITUAL/PASTORAL SEMINAR

1st Talk: Effective Christian Leadership as Key to Growth of the Church (Mk 10:44-45)

Speaker: Rev. Fr. Michael Etekpo, MSP

Date: May 17, 2025

Venue: CKC Ilasamaja, Surulere Deanery

SUMMARY OF THE LAY LEADERS' SPIRITUAL/PASTORAL FORMATION SEMINAR

Principles of Effective Leadership:

1. Must be service-oriented

2. Must focus on others

Characteristics of Effective Leadership

1. An effective leader MUST be a person of deep faith

2. Servant leaders foster a sense of Unity and Cohesion  within the groups they lead

3. Servant leadership is visionary. Servant leaders focus on their visions and avoid distractions

4. A servant leader MUST nurture the gifts in others- those he/she is leading

5. Servant leaders must guard against the use of hurting words against the people we lead.

Imitating Christ as a Servant Leader

1. It was established that Christ is our Model as servant leaders ...

2. Leadership isn't about power control, advancement of personal ambitions. The Christ model is that that portrays service. We must emulate CHRIST

3. Love leads. We can lead those we do not love. We were reminded that the best way to handle criticism is to embrace it with love.  Jesus even loved and prayed for those who persecuted him

Finally, as the election year approaches, lay faithful are reminded once again not to cause chaos in our quest to lead at parish/Deanery/society levels. As lay faithful and leaders, we must guard against transactional campaigns as we approach the election year.

Note: This is not the official communique. Just a few notes taken.

We're glad to have represented our deanery
